Water Recirculation Pit
San Louis Potosi, Mexico
Project Scope
Install a flexible PVC liner in a concrete pit to solve a failed coating problem.
Challenge
The applied coating in a water collection pit was flaking
off and causing contamination in the spray wash of the
production line. These flakes were causing rejected
parts as the plant was trying to go on-line for the first
time. From the initial inspection the failure appeared to
be the result of poor substrate preparation.
Solution
To rectify the problem, the project engineers selected a
flexible PVC liner from Witt Lining Systems. A Witt Liner
is not bonded to the concrete, so the failed coating did
need to be sand blasted off of the substrate. This meant
the liner could be installed immediately. With no curing
time the liner could also be put into service immediately,
saving days (if not weeks) of remediation work.
Results
Installation of the liner was performed by H3 Services and completed over two days. Incoming piping was handled with pipe boots. Where there was a core-drilled hole, leading to the collection sump, a compression ring was used to seal the liner to the wall. With the new liner installed, the failed coating could no longer contaminate the water used on the production line.
